Enriched with high-quality protein sources, vitamins, minerals, and essential amino acids. Easily digestible and highly palatable. Produces better weight gain, fewer digestive problems, and better acceptance than other formulas. All natural, no preservatives, made in the USA. We recommend using the special nipple and bottle to make feeding your baby easier. Size 8 oz sealed tub or Net Wt. 8.82 oz (250) in a resealable bag.
1. Clean and Disinfect Feeding Equipment
Before starting the mixing process, it is crucial to clean and disinfect all feeding equipment that will be used. This helps prevent the introduction and spread of infections, bacteria, and viruses that can be harmful to newborns. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and consider using hand sanitizer as an additional precaution.
2. Boil Water and Allow it to Cool
Boiling water is an important step in killing any microorganisms that may be present. While tap water and bottled water sources are generally safe, using boiled water is a safety measure, especially for newborns with susceptible immune systems. Allow the boiled water to cool to approximately 120 degrees Fahrenheit before blending it with the powdered milk.
3. Measure Out Two Parts Hot Water
When reconstituting milk replacer, it is essential to use the right temperature. Measure out two parts of hot water, approximately 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Using water that is too cold may prevent the powder from dissolving and the fat sources from melting, causing clumping. On the other hand, using water that is too hot may cause the milk ingredients to curdle or clump, which can block the nipple and strain the newborn while suckling.

4. Measure Out One Part Powder
Measure out one part (1/4 cup) of powdered milk replacer. This ratio of 1:2 (one part powder to two parts water) is recommended. For example, 1/4 cup of powder and 1/2 cup of water will result in approximately 70 mL of formula. You can use smaller measuring devices to reconstitute less milk as long as you maintain the 1:2 ratio.

5. Add Powder to Water and Blend
Slowly add the powdered milk replacer to the hot water and blend for approximately 30 seconds or until well incorporated. It is recommended to blend the powder into the water slowly to create a smooth texture. Avoid shaking or using a blender, as they can incorporate air into the formula and create bubbles that may cause gas when swallowed by the newborns. Allowing the formula to sit and cool to body temperature (approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit) helps any remaining bubbles dissipate before feeding.
6. Transfer Formula into Syringes
Transfer the mixed formula into clean O-Ring syringes intended for feeding. It is suggested to use Exotic Nutrition's O-Ring Syringes with Wonder Nipples, preferably the 1 ml size. Straining the liquid first can help separate any clumps that may have formed, which can then be broken up and reincorporated into the formula. Ingesting clumps without breaking them up may slow digestion or block the nipple.
7. Allow Formula to Cool Before Feeding
After mixing, the reconstituted milk replacer may still be quite hot. It is crucial to allow the formula to cool to body temperature (approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit) before feeding. You can cool the syringe by running it under cold water or partially immersing it in ice water. If a thermometer is not available, test the milk's temperature on sensitive skin, such as the inner wrist, before offering it to the newborn. Feeding formula that is too hot can scald or severely burn the newborn's mouth and esophagus.
Feeding Instructions:
Different animals have specific feeding guidelines and schedules. See our feeding instructions for common exotic animals
Storage Instructions:
It is recommended to prepare fresh milk replacer for each feeding whenever possible. Prepared milk replacer can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Store the unmixed powder in a cool, dark place up to the best by date.
Mixing milk replacers for exotic animals requires careful attention to detail and adherence to recommended instructions. By following the steps outlined above, you can ensure the health and well-being of newborns. Remember to always prioritize the safety and comfort of the animals during the feeding process.
It is important to note that these guidelines are provided as general information. It is always recommended to consult with a veterinarian or an experienced professional for specific advice and guidance tailored to the needs of the individual animal.
offers Marsupial Milk Replacer
(for sugar gliders and opossums) or Specialty Milk Replacer
(for other mammals). These powdered milk replacement formulas are a complete food source for orphaned or rejected baby animals. Easily digestible and highly palatable, made in the USA.
Feeding Instructions for Milk Replacer Formula:
It is crucial to let the baby eat at its own pace, especially if it is not willingly suckling from the syringe. Rapidly squirting the liquid can lead to aspiration, which can cause the liquid to enter the lungs and potentially suffocate the baby.
After feeding, it is important to stimulate its cloaca to allow the baby to defecate and urinate. You can use a moist cotton ball to gently stimulate the cloaca until the baby stops eliminating waste.
Keep the baby animal warm in a Calming Glove or fleece bonding pouch next to your body. Alternatively, you can place a Pet Warming Pad in a glass aquarium or plastic storage container (away from the baby). Cover the heating pad with a soft towel and monitor the temperature, ensuring it remains stable at around 100 degrees Fahrenheit near the baby.
Sugar Glider Joeys:
Day 1: Mix 30% Marsupial Milk Replacer with 70% Unflavored Pedialyte.
Day 2: Mix 60% Marsupial Milk Replacer with 40% Unflavored Pedialyte.
Day 3: Mix 75% Marsupial Milk Replacer with 25% Unflavored Pedialyte.
Day 4: Use 100% Marsupial Milk Replacer.
The amount to feed depends on the joey's OOP (Out of Pouch) age:
- 1 week OOP (joey weighs 10-20g) = 0.5ml every 2 hrs
- 2 weeks OOP (joey weighs 14-24g) = 0.5ml every 2 hrs
- 3 weeks OOP (joey weighs 15-25g) = 1ml every 4 hrs
- 4 weeks OOP (joey weighs 21-32g) = 1ml every 4 hrs
- 5 weeks OOP (joey weighs 28-39g) = 2ml every 4 hrs
- 6 weeks OOP (joey weighs 33-44g) = 2ml every 4 hrs
- 7 weeks OOP (joey weighs 38-49g) = 3ml every 4 hrs
- 8 weeks OOP (joey weighs 43-59g) = 3ml every 4 hrs
- Offer 4 ml every 4 hrs until glider begins eating solids and is an adult (weighs 85-139g).
Baby Squirrels:
Age / Weight of Baby / Schedule / Amount per Feeding / Night Feeding
- 0-1 Week/10-20 grams/Every 2-3 hours/0.5 cc/Feed once per night
- 1-2 Weeks/20-40 grams/Every 2-3 hours/0.75-1 cc/Feed once per night
- 2-3 Weeks/40-60 grams/Every 3 hours/2-3 cc/Before Bed
- 3-4 Weeks/60-80 grams/Every 3-4 hours/3-4 cc/Before Bed
- 4-5 Weeks/80-120 grams/Every 4 hours/4-6 cc/Before bed
- 5-8 Weeks/120-240 grams/Every 4-6 hours/8-12 cc/Before Bed
- 8-10 Weeks/240-400 grams/1-2 times per day/12-20 cc/Solid Foods at Night
- 10-12 Weeks/400-600 grams/1 time per day/Wean with Solid Foods at Night
If you are unsure about your baby squirrel's age, you can use the following formula to determine how much Specialty Milk Replacer to offer: Offer up to 5% of the squirrel's body weight per feeding. For example, if your squirrel weighs 100 grams, offer 5 ml of milk replacer per feeding. If your squirrel weighs 50 grams, offer 2.5 ml per feeding.
Baby Rabbits:
The following amounts should be divided into two feedings per day:
- Newborn to 1 week: Feed 4-5 cc of formula.
- 1-2 weeks: Feed 10-15 cc of formula.
- 2-3 weeks: Feed 15-30 cc of formula.
- 3-6 weeks (until weaned): Feed 30 cc of formula.
Until their eyes open (around 10 days), after each feeding, it is important to stimulate the baby rabbit to defecate and urinate. Gently stroke the genital area with a soft cloth or moist cotton ball to replicate the behavior of the mother rabbit, who would lick her young to stimulate them to go to the bathroom. The stool may be soft and vary in shades of green and yellow.
Baby Opossums:
Weight of Baby / Amount / Frequency
- 30 g/1.5 ml/Every 2-3 hours
- 35 g/1.75 ml/Every 2-3 hours
- 40 g/2 ml/Every 4 hours
- 45 g/2.25 ml/Every 4 hours
Baby Skunks:
Mix 2 parts powder with 3 parts warm water. Feed 1 to 1.5 tablespoons (15-22ml) per ounce of bodyweight daily, divided into 4 to 6 feeding.
Baby Raccoons:
Mix 1 part powder to 2 parts warm water. Feed 2-3 tablespoons (30-45ml) per four ounces bodyweight daily, divided into 4 to 6 feedings.
Remember, it is crucial to let the baby eat at its own pace, especially if it is not willingly suckling from the syringe.
